Monica Martinez Simmons

Monica MartinezMonica joined the board in 2016. Monica has extensive experience in local government spans 38 years. She is the first Latina to serve as City Clerk in the City of Seattle’s 146-year history. Monica is committed to fostering civic engagement by advancing principles of open government and inclusiveness. Her public administration background has been focused in the legal and legislative fields. Monica is the immediate past president and current Executive Committee member for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), an education-based organization serving public officers in North America and 15 other countries. Monica has been recognized by the National Election Center and Government Innovations, and her team has been honored with the Outstanding Washington State Employer Award from the Community Employment Alliance for exceptional efforts to employ people with disabilities.
